A geek must always be chic even while… studying!
Geek chic is a form of style, which combines preppy + geeky + girly elements. Note that it is not only a way of dressing but also a way of decorating a house or (more generally) a lifestyle.
Imagine yourself in a small café in Paris (preferably Monmartre) drinking your favorite warm coffee, outside it’s raining and it is a bit cold. You are sitting next to the window at a small table, you are wearing a knee-length plissé skirt, a shirt with pearl buttons, nice leggings and a pair of oxfords. Your hair is formed into a loose updo with a bow-shaped hair accessory, you are wearing large glasses (like the ones we used to hate during school!) and you are reading your favorite classical novel!
Well, THIS IS GEEK CHIC!
Some people believe that glasses are necessary for the geek chic look. I don’t!
What I do believe is important is not to confuse preppy with geek chic or too girly with geek chic!
It is important to understand that in order to fully adopt this style you must resemble “a graceful geek” (many many hours of studying while looking girly and cute; studying for you has never been easier!)
My proposition for a Geek chic look
1) a cardigan with pearls or flower pins
2) a tight striped shirt
3) a plissé or tartan skirt
4) a velvet jacket
5) oxford shoes or ballerinas
6) a pashmina scarf
7) a satchel bag
and of course
8) the college/university look as if you’re saying: “Oh my God I have to present a paper in a week, but aren’t I look adorable as I am studying hard with this new satin ribbon in my hair and this fabulous girly outfit?”
